Mission 4 | gLeander: Origins...

Hello group!

Both the name of our course in the platform and the name of our blog are gLeander. Have you ever wondered why? Use a search engine to look for background information on Leander, share it with everyone else and, then, try to think of a reason why a 'g' was added to this name.

The best explanation gets extra points...
Regards,
STEN Neto

I think the name LEANDER is refering to a light cruiser warship class. As we are in the navy it's a well chosen name. And "G" can mean global.

See Leander class frigate for the later frigate class of the same name.

The Leander class was a class of eight light cruisers built for the Royal Navy in the early 1930s that saw service in World War II. They were named after mythological figures, and all ships were commissioned between 1933 and 1936. The three ships of the second group were later transferred to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and renamed after Australian cities.

I was searching in the Internet about the meaning of the word “Leander” and I found this:

Welcome
Leander ISD’s success is driven by an uncompromising vision and an unwavering devotion to three key elements: a continually improving world-class curriculum, a focus on teaching and modeling ethical behavior, and the encouragement of a level of parent and community involvement that is the envy of school districts across Texas. LISD continues to be among the nation’s fastest-growing school districts! Leander ISD's Vision is that "Every student is encouraged, supported, and challenged to achieve the highest levels of knowledge, skills, and character."
I think is about the school, knowledge and learning the English American language.

“Gleander” – get leander motto

In my opinion the name Leander, come from the name of the ship, launched at 1931 in England and then was given to the New Zeland army to take their first unit. At 13 july 1943 the ship was attacked by the japanese, a torpedo hit amidships. That torpedo damaged the engine room, a boiler room and a 4-inch gun. But the ship could reach the harbour. In May 1944 he reverted to Royal Navy. The G, i think it is because the meaning "great" (GreatLeander), because he survived to the attacks.

The name of LEANDER is the name of one transportation ship that transports immigrants.
From England to America.
The g means global importance of the English language that colonize not only the U.S.A. but also the world.

According with this and taking in account the image on top of the Blog main page, I believe that the reason for the name concerns about a New Zealander warship named Leander.

In my opinion it's because of the Leander Computing. Using the newest technologies, LC can setup in your home or office broadband networking for multiple computers.
With more and more areas getting connected to DSL and Cable-Modems, it is now easier to have a fast connection to the internet.
